5 Myths About Filler Debunked

Fillers have gained mainstream popularity thanks to transparency from celebrities and influencers alike. However, despite the injectable becoming largely de-stigmatized, there are still a number of misconceptions about what it does and how it works. That ends now — we’re debunking five myths about filler:

Myth #1: Fillers and Botox are all the same

Unlike Neurotoxins, such as Botox and Dysport, which work by freezing the nerves in the treated area, fillers work by — like the name implies — filling in the treated area.

Dermal fillers are made up primarily of Hyaluronic Acid (HA), a naturally-occurring component in the skin that provides it with structure and gives it a plump, firm look. Injected, HA can restore plumpness and replenish your body’s natural production of hyaluronic acid.

Fillers are very versatile and have the ability to:

  • Enhance contours and sagging skin
  • Soften facial lines
  • Improve the appearance of wrinkles
  • Plump thin lips

Myth #2: Filler is painful

Okay, so this one isn’t fully a myth, but it shouldn’t dissuade you from taking the leap. Prior to your injection, we’ll apply numbing cream to the treatment area for 15-30 minutes, mitigating the bulk of the pain from the injection.

Most patients find the experience tolerable and easy to endure, but we’ll be sure to check in on you throughout your treatment to ensure your comfortability. Following the treatment, you may experience some swelling, but it will subside within a couple of days following the injection. After treatments, most of our clients claim that getting filler is not as uncomfortable, and much easier than they perceived it to be!

Myth #3: Filler doesn’t last

Once injected, filler works right away and can last for up to a year, making it a great investment as you strut out looking and feeling like a more confident version of yourself. Its longevity means less maintenance than Botox and more time loving your results… and if you don’t, filler can be easily dissolved.

Myth #4: Filler looks unnatural

Still, we’re confident you’re going to love your results. Like any aesthetic treatment, the injector you choose is important. It’s easy to think about fillers as paying per syringe, but remember what you’re really paying for is an outcome.

Our experienced staff is trained to give you the look you want, whether that’s au natural or a little bit over the top (no judgment here!). With the right injector, you can ask for and receive precisely what you want as we work together to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Myth #5: Filler doesn’t make a difference

Although we recommend starting out small (it’s much easier to add more filler than it is to dissolve and start from scratch), even a little bit can make a big difference. When injecting filler, the goal is to help you look like yourself, but more refreshed and maybe a bit more glam. Artfully injected areas can help you appear younger and rejuvenated without looking over-exaggerated — after all, some of the best work goes unnoticed.
