ACNE

What is Acne

Though acne is a common skincare condition, that doesn’t mean it is not troublesome and frustrating. It occurs when oil and dead skin cells clog the pores, which results in pimples, blackheads, whiteheads and bumps. Some people are more prone to rapidly-growing or more extensive cases of acne because of genetics, skin type, or both.

Healthy pores tend to shed one layer of dead skin cells a day, while acne-prone pores can shed up to five layers of dead skin cells a day. Though it is known to affect those in their teen and young adult years, people can also experience acne well into their adulthood. About 20 percent of all acne cases occur in adults. Due to the increase in hormone production during the adolescent years, teens can experience acne that lasts five to ten years that eventually subsides in their 20s.
