The skin on our face contains tiny blood vessels that work to keep our face looking fresh and supple. When those blood vessels become abnormal or widened, people can often experience two types of skin conditions: rosacea, and telangiectasia.
How to recognize the symptoms
Rosacea is characterized by redness and visible blood vessels that often appear in the cheeks and nose. The redness can also spread to other areas of the face and back. There are subtypes of rosacea with different identifying symptoms, including: acne-like breakouts, a bumpy texture to the skin, and irritated eyelids. Because the symptoms can become quite intense and severe, rosacea can affect a person’s overall quality of life.
Telangiectasia is commonly referred to as “spider veins” because of its widespread appearance. A common skincare condition, telangiectasia takes place when the widened blood vessels create threadlike patterns on the skin. The spider veins usually appear in clusters and look web-like. The condition can appear on the cheeks and bloom outward to spread around the nose and chin.
