Chemical Peels

What Are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are specialty skincare treatments that involve the application of mild acids to the skin. The most common peels contain a range of different nutrients and acids such as glycolic, trichloroacetic, salicylic, lactic and carbolic acid. These components are safe for the skin and act as exfoliating agents, ridding your skin of dead cells and debris.

How Do Chemical Peels Work?

Chemical peels range in acid concentration from mild to deep. Your particular peel type will be dependent on your specific skin care needs. Depending on the type of peel, a reaction similar to sunburn occurs following the peel’s application. This is accompanied by redness and scaling that ends within 3-7 days.

What Do Peels Treat?

Chemical peels are a great choice for those struggling with hyperpigmentation and similar concerns. For those who have sun damage, acne or age spots, a mild acid may suffice. Those struggling with rosacea, melasma or telangiectasia may benefit more from deeper peels.

What to Expect During Treatment

Most of the peels available at our clinic generally take 15-30 minutes to apply. However, this time may vary depending on your individual skin care needs. During a peel session, most people feel a mild burning and stinging sensation. This feeling usually lasts about 5-10 minutes. In addition to these treatments, we also offer various skin care products to help nourish your skin.

Results of Peels

Mild peels offer a nice radiance and glow with zero downtime. This variety may be repeated at four-week intervals until optimal results are reached. Medium and deep chemical peels may result in some slight swelling, redness and sensitivity. Afterward, your skin will peel over a period of 7-14 days. You’ll need to avoid direct sunlight for several months after a chemical peel since your new skin will be fragile and prone to irritation.
